    Bay Head's Beach - December 2024

Beach replenishment projects have been scheduled for Bay Head and Mantoloking in 2025.  At this point, details are few and far between, but we have shared what we have learned from various sources, below.

    Timing

As you recall from prior Army Corps projects, timing is inexact, and is subject to change.

Bay Head: The renourishment work is projected to start in late March, and end in early May.

Mantoloking: The renourishment work is projected to start in early May and end in mid-June. (immediately following Bay Head's project)

Work will be in progress in other surrounding towns before and after the Bay Head and Mantoloking projects.

    Method

The work will be carried out by Great Lakes Dock and Dredge Company (the contractor selected by the Army Corps via the public bid process).  The sand will be taken via dredge, from borrow pits offshore (within state waters - eg - less than 3 miles out), brought close to shore, and then pumped onto the beach, and spread by heavy equipment.  You will likely recognize the process - it is very similar to the original beach replenishment procedure.

    Details

Leading up to the start of the project, and throughout its duration, you will see contractors on the beach, and parked nearby.  This may include surveyors, engineers, equipment operators, and more. Work will take place 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  The only exceptions are expected to be for weather, safety, or equipment breakdowns.  Of course, all of these events are likely to occur!

While the work is in progress, a section of roughly 1000' of beach will be closed at a time, as the work moves through town.  Access to the north and south of the active work zone should not be affected.

    Reality

It is highly likely that the work will not start and end as scheduled - this could be due to delays at other jobs, weather, equipment breakdown, and more.  Please plan accordingly.  It is hoped that all work will be completed before we get into the heart of the summer, but nothing is guaranteed.

    Updates

We will share updates as we have them.  If you would like to receive Bay Head and Mantoloking updates from us via text message, you can opt-in here.  You may also find updates on the Army Corps of Engineers - Phidalephia District website at times.

We have obtained this information from a variety of reliable sources, and believe it to be accurate, but it is not guaranteed.  Do not make plans based on this information, due to the fact that it is highly likely to change.
